A meeting was recently held between the Chairman of RRB Patna and a group of students who are preparing for railway exams. In this meeting, many problems and suggestions from students were discussed in detail. The goal of the meeting was to understand the concerns of candidates and take them to higher authorities if needed. Below are the 7 main points that came out of this meeting, explained in very simple and clear language:
1. No Technical Qualification Needed for Group D (Level-1) Jobs
RRB clearly said that for Group D posts (also known as Level-1 posts), like Helpers, technical qualifications are not needed. These workers assist technicians in their daily work. After gaining experience, they can also get promoted to technician posts. RRB mentioned that till now, all Group D recruitments have been done on the basis of 10th pass only.
2. About the Normalization Formula Used in Exams
Currently, RRB is using a normalization formula created by IIT Kharagpur to balance marks across different exam shifts. Some students said that candidates in all shifts should be of similar ability level. RRB Patna agreed that if students submit a written request, this suggestion can be sent to the Railway Recruitment Control Board (RRCB) in Delhi for further consideration.
3. Regarding the Waiting List
Students want the full waiting list to be released at once. But RRB explained that when the full waiting list is released together, many candidates demand that all seats be filled immediately. So, the board follows a step-by-step method—first list, then second, and even third DV (Document Verification) list with gradually lower cutoffs. If students give a joint written request, RRB Patna will send this demand to the higher authorities.
4. No Increase in Current Vacancy Numbers
Many students asked for more vacancies in the current recruitment. RRB replied that from now on, recruitment will happen every year regularly. So, the number of posts in this year’s recruitment will not be increased. Students should focus on the current recruitment process.
5. Following a Proper Recruitment Calendar
RRB assured that in the future, they will try to conduct exams within 6 months after releasing the notification. This will help reduce delays and make the process faster for students.
6. Age Limit Relaxation After COVID
In 2024, candidates were given 3 years of extra age relaxation because of the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, students are suggesting that this relaxation should end slowly – for example, 2 years relaxation this year, 1 year next year. RRB said if this suggestion is shared through a written memorandum, they are ready to send it to the Delhi board for further decision.
7. Demand for CBT-2 or Technical Questions in Technician Recruitment
Students said that in Technician recruitment, there should be a CBT-2 stage or at least some technical subject questions in the exam. RRB agreed that this is a fair suggestion. They said if students submit a joint written request, this demand will also be forwarded to the central board.
This meeting showed that RRB Patna is open to hearing student problems and ready to forward their requests to higher authorities if they are submitted in writing. So, students are advised to come together and present their demands clearly in proper form.
This is a positive step and shows that student voices are being heard. Now, it is important for aspirants to stay united and follow the proper way to get their concerns addressed.
