The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) carries out the recruitment of Junior Engineers (JE), Junior Engineer(Information Technology), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) on a regular basis. The selection process of the suitable candidates is done through two computer-based tests (CBT I and CBT II) followed by document verification and medical examination.
The CBT I stage of the recruitment process tests the candidates on their knowledge of Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Science. The candidates who are willing to apply for the RRB JE Recruitment 2024 need to be aware of the exam pattern and syllabus of these subjects. This article deals with RRB JE syllabus for the subject of Mathematics for the CBT 1 exam as mentioned in the official notification.
RRB JE Mathematics Syllabus 2024
The candidates appearing for the RRB JE exam are Engineering Graduates and are tested on a range of subjects in both the CBT 1 and CBT 2 exams. The subject of Mathematics is asked in only the CBT 1 exam which is qualifying in nature. Before going through the various topics asked in the Mathematics section of CBT 1, the candidates should get familiar with the pattern of the paper.
RRB JE CBT 1 Exam Pattern

RRB JE Mathematics Preparation Tips & Tricks
A good preparation for the mathematics section in the RRB CBT 1 exam can increase the chances of getting through to the CBT 2 round exponentially. Moreover, having a good grip on the mathematical concepts provides an edge to the candidates in solving the questions in other sections of both the exam, especially in the General Intelligence & Reasoning section in CBT 1 and the Technical section in CBT 2.
In the points below, we have provided a list of tips and tricks that can help candidates prepare for the mathematics section of the RRB JE Exam. It should be noted that these are mere suggestions and each candidate can adopt them according to their strengths and weaknesses.
- Analysis of the exam pattern and syllabus: It is the first step while commencing the preparation process of the mathematics section and it helps the candidates in making a proper roadmap for the preparation.
- Going through the Previous Year Questions: The PYQs are one of the most important resources for preparing the mathematics section. Candidates can find year-wise and chapter-wise collections of these questions easily and can assess the level and trend of mathematics questions asked in the recent installments of the exam.
- Dividing the syllabus into blocks: As you can observe in the previous sections of this article, the syllabus for mathematics is vast and contains a lot of topics. To manage the entire syllabus in a fixed preparation time, it is very helpful to group the topics that utilize similar concepts together. This can help the candidates keep track of each block and make a proper revision schedule.
- Do not avoid taking mocks: In recent years, the competition level has gone up significantly and the importance of sectional & full-length mocks has taken center stage in the preparation process as they help the candidates get familiar with the exam pattern. The candidates should keep a part of their schedule for attempting and analyzing mocks from day 1 of preparation. This will help them improve their speed, accuracy & time management skills for the actual paper.
- Make handwritten notes: The mathematics section contains a lot of topics and each topic contains many different concepts. Making handwritten notes for each chapter helps the candidates connect with the syllabus and also acts as an authentic source of quick revision.
- Maintain a mistake log: The basic nature of the mathematics section is learning concepts and question practice. However, while solving problems and attempting mocks, candidates commit a lot of mistakes, and keeping a separate notebook for recording such questions and their solutions can help them minimize the negative marking and improve accuracy in the actual exam.
- Repeated Revision is the key: It is generally suggested that while preparing for the RRB JE Exam, the candidates should keep the number of resources limited and go through them multiple times. It helps them maintain focus for longer periods and develop a grip on the key concepts.
