The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2024 to fill various Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ posts in different Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India, as well as in various Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies, and Tribunals. With the release of the SSC CGL notification, many candidates are curious about whether there will be interviews for any posts in the CGL exam. This article will address this question and provide clarity on the selection process.
Interviews were held for the posts in SSC CGL until 2016. However, in 2016, the Department of Personnel and Training issued a notification stating that from January 1, 2016, interviews would be eliminated for recruitment to junior level posts. This applies to Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted), Group ‘C’, Group ‘D’, and all equivalent positions in Government of India Ministries, Departments, Attached Offices, Subordinate Offices, Autonomous Bodies, and Public Sector Undertakings.

SSC CGL Selection Process and Examination Scheme for 2024
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) now conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination in two tiers, both using a Computer Based Examination (CBE) format. The Tier I exam serves as a qualifying round. The final merit list is determined solely based on the scores achieved in the Tier II examination.
SSC CGL Tier-I Examination
- 4 sections: General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension
- 25 questions each, 50 marks per section
- Total: 100 questions, 200 marks
- Time: 1 hour (1 hour 20 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe)
- Negative marking: 0.50 for each wrong answer
SSC CGL Tier-II Examination
- Paper-I (2 hours 15 minutes):
- Section-I (1 hour): Mathematical Abilities (30 questions), Reasoning and General Intelligence (30 questions)
- Section-II (1 hour): English Language and Comprehension (45 questions), General Awareness (25 questions)
- Section-III (15 minutes): Computer Knowledge (20 questions, 60 marks) is qualifying
- Paper-I Total: 150 questions (3 marks each), but cut-off will be based on marks scored in Section-I and Section-II, totaling 130 questions worth 390 marks. Computer Knowledge is qualifying, so its marks will not be added in merit preparation.
- Session-II (15 minutes): Data Entry Speed Test (2000 key depressions)
- 1/3 Negative Marking
The exam includes multiple-choice questions in both English and Hindi (except English Comprehension). Time extensions are provided for candidates eligible for scribes.
It’s important to note that since SSC has changed the pattern of the Combined Graduate level Exam in 2022, the Prelims exam is now only for qualification. Candidates should focus their efforts on the Mains exam, as the final selection and ranking will be based on the Mains performance. So there is no interview for any posts in SSC CGL, the merit preparation will only be based on the marks obtained in SSC CGL Tier II exam, which is computer based objective type examination.
