International Students Day 2023: International Students Day is celebrated every year on 17 November to commemorate the bravery of a student who stood straight against Nazi occupation. These students battled for their right to higher education and the pride of Prague. In 1941, 17th November was declared to be celebrated as International Students Day to honor the bravery of students and their hard work.

History of International Students Day 2023
When Adolf Hitler’s ascent to power in 1933, the Third Reich claimed territory outside of Germany and in 1938, Nazis annexed Hitler’s native place Austria, and later Nazis made Czechoslovakia cede a portion of its territory. Students of Charles University in Prague’s Medical Faculty started a protest in 1939 to mark the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic as an independent republic. The protest took a violent turn and was put down by the Nazis, which in turn killed a student named Jan Opletal in the process.
