International Solar Alliance’s Fifth Assembly

International Solar Alliance’s Fifth Assembly will organise in New Delhi from 17th to 20th October, 2022. The Assembly is the apex decision-making body of ISA. In the assembly each member country is represented. This body makes decisions regarding the implementation of the ISA’s Framework Agreement and coordinated actions to be taken to achieve its objective. India holds the office of the President of the ISA Assembly. Ministers and delegates from 109 Member and signatory Countries are going to participate in this meeting.

The first Assembly of the ISA was held from 2nd to 5th October 2018 in Greater Noida, National Capital Region, India.

International Solar Alliance (ISA)

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an alliance to work for efficient consumption of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It is an alliance of 121 signatory countries, most being sunshine countries, which lie either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. The formation of this alliance was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. It was founded in Paris by Prime Minister Modi along with the French President.

Currently it has 109 member countries. Ukraine became 109th member of ISA and the USA became 101st member to join the alliance.

It works to improve energy access and energy security worldwide and promote solar power as a sustainable source of energy. ISA’s aims is to attract US$ 1 trillion of investments in solar by 2030 while reducing the cost of the technology and its financing. ISA became the first international intergovernmental organization to be headquartered in India. It is headquartered in Gurugram. Ajay Mathur is the Director General of ISA.
