India Post recruits thousands of candidates every year for various posts such as Postmen, Mailguard, and MTS. India Post Salary 2024
India Post announced almost 1 Lakh vacancies for the posts of Postman, Mailguard and Multi Tasking Staff last year. Candidates can expect a huge number of vacancies this year as well. Regarding the India Post Salary, the Postman and Mailguard posts are of Pay Level 3, whereas Multi-Tasking Staff or MTS comes under Pay Level 1. All the recent recruits will get a total salary as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.
In addition to the basic salary according to the Pay Level, candidates will also be entitled to allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance, etc. Moreover, there will be minor deductions from the Gross Salary towards the National Pension Scheme (NPS) and the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
Note: The Dearness Allowance (DA) has been revised to 50% by the Central Government with effect from 01 January 2024 because of the rising inflation. This will significantly increase the In Hand Salary of all India Post employees.

The basic pay of the postman and mail guard ranges from 21,700 to 69,100. The highest basic income that a postman and mail guard can have is rupees 69,100.

India Post Office MTS Job Profile
The different kinds of duties performed by the person appointed as MTS are given below:
- General, cleanliness & upkeep of the section/unit/office.
- Carrying files and other papers within the building.
- Delivering of Dak (outside the building)
- Physical maintenance of records in the section/office.
- Watch and ward duties.
- Photocopying, sending of FAX etc.
- Assisting in routine office work like diary, despatch etc, including on computer.
- Opening and closing of rooms.
- Cleaning of rooms.
- Cleaning of building, fixtures etc.
- Mail exchange of bags at sections, TMOs, and RMS post offices.
India Post Office Postman Job Profile
- It is Postman’s duty to examine every article given to him for delivery and bring at once to the notice of the postmaster any article that is damaged or that bears the appearance of having been tampered with. Special care must be taken to observe the conditions of insured articles.
- It is the duty of the Postman to sign the required documents in the post office under which articles and cash have been entrusted to him for delivery/payment.
