How Much Time It Takes for SSC CGL Joining?

The Staff Selection Commission conducts many recruitment drives to select suitable candidates in various government departments. The SSC CGL Exam is conducted by the commission to recruit thousands of government employees in multiple Group B and C posts every year. How Much Time Does It Take for SSC CGL Joining?

The SSC CGL Recruitment is a multi-stage process and takes a fairly long time to reach the final merit list. Overall, the entire process takes 1 to 1.5 years for each cycle. The commission has made some important changes in the selection process in the past few years and now consists of two stages i.e. Tier 1 and Tier 2 Exams. These exams are followed by document verification and joining. In this article let us discuss the basic timeline of the SSC CGL Recruitment process.

Release of the SSC CGL Notification

The Staff Selection Commission releases the annual exam calendar providing the candidates with a sense of a basic timeline. The release of the SSC CGL Notification is the first step in this process and is generally seen around May or June of each year. The candidates are provided a window of 30 days to submit their duly filled applications.

The Tier 1 Exam

When the online application window is closed after a month of the release of the notification, the next step in the selection process is the Tier 1 Examination. This exam is generally conducted 1.5 to 2 months after the last date of application. The result for this stage is released one to two months after the last shift of the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam.

The Tier 2 Exam

The second stage in the CGL selection process i.e. is conducted 2 to 2.5 months after the release of the Tier 1 result. The commission now conducts the mains exam in a single shift and the result is declared 2 to 2.5 months after the exam. It is followed by the process of filling out the post preference form.

Declaration of Final Result

The final merit list of the CGL Exam is decided on the basis of the marks obtained by the qualified candidates in the Tier 2 exam and their post preference orders. The commission takes almost 2 months to declare the final result and allocation of departments/ministries.

Document Verification

In the past, Document Verification (DV) was a separate stage in the selection process and the candidates were screened on the basis of whether they satisfy all the aspects of the eligibility criteria. This process used to take a long time. However, since 2022, the commission has decided that the DV stage will be conducted by the department in which the successful candidate has been allocated according to the final result. the entire process is now online and takes a time of almost a month.

Final Joining

The commission had made the changes in the selection process to bring down the time period from the release of the notification till the date of joining. One should keep in mind that the time taken by different government departments may differ depending upon their method of doing things and the resources available to them. So after the document verification is done by the user departments, it takes the candidates an average of two to three months after the DV to join the service.
